Coffee: Beneficial or Detrimental


Many people drink coffee for the caffeine boost, then it becomes a habit. Their morning just does not seem quite right without that coffee. It is assumed that coffee is a very negative substance. However, it can have many benefits that you may not have known.

Benefits

People know that coffee contains caffeine. That is one reason why many people have incorporated it into their daily routines. However, it can also give you an adrenaline boost that can help you before you work out. Coffee intake will give you a boost and help you perform better if you take it about an hour before your workout.

Coffee also helps you focus; it helps you stay alert in the morning time when you may still feel somewhat tired. In this same way, coffee connects with your central nervous system to give you a brighter mood. Because your nervous system is stimulated, you will be more likely to feel positive about life.

All of the above benefits are available to one-time coffee drinkers. However, there are also some benefits that are only in place to those who take coffee regularly. For example, there is an inverse relationship between those who regularly drink coffee and those who develop Type II diabetes. Those who drink more coffee have fewer cases, while those who drink less coffee, have more cases. This happens because coffee regulates testosterone and estrogen, which both contribute to developing Type II diabetes.

This same connection can be found between coffee and other drugs as well. For example, those who drink coffee regularly have a 40% lower chance of developing liver cancer. Coffee drinkers also lower their chances of experiencing Parkinson's, liver disease, and a heart attack.

Coffee, taken black, has a low amount of calories (around two or three). Adding sugar and milk can, of course, increase the calorie count. However, coffee is actually quite healthy on its own.

Disadvantages

Because of the caffeine present in coffee, it can give you insomnia and not allow you to sleep if taken a few hours before you need to go to bed. You are probably aware of the caffeine count in coffee, just be thoughtful about when you consume it so that you do not experience this problem.

Because babies are extremely sensitive to caffeine, you should be careful about your coffee intake while pregnant. Anything you drink will also go to the baby, and you do not want a restless baby while you are trying to sleep.

Drinking coffee regularly in large quantities can increase your risk of developing an ulcer. It can also cause problems for those already suffering from IBS and Crohn's disease.

Because coffee relaxes the esophageal sphincter, it can increase your risk of experiencing heartburn or acid reflux. If you are already sensitive to either of these things, you should refrain from constant coffee drinking.

Last of all, coffee increases the release of stress hormones. This means that when you drink coffee, your heart rate and blood pressure are increased. While this may help you begin your work day, it is not good for your body to always work under this elevated tension.

Coffee has many advantages that were unknown until recent studies demonstrated how they can have a relationship with diseases, causing one to be less likely to contract them. However, you need to remain careful and not always rely on coffee to start your day as it can cause stomach problems, and it causes your tension level to be elevated.
