Public Relations in the News

PR has seen a lot of shake-ups, break ups, events and celebrations this week. Starting with events in Beverly Hills all the way to celebrating 30 year anniversaries for one female-led company, the PR world has experienced quite a few changes of late.

PR Event of the Year in Beverly Hills
On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 6 p.m. the BPRS-LA 3rd Annual Pat Tobin PR Excellence Awards will take place in Beverly Hills. The event will be hosted by entertainment journalist and producer, Tanika Ray, as Black Public Relations announces and awards its honorees. Some of the honorees scheduled include Monica Bouldin, Anna Fuson, Arnold Robinson, and Allison Queen.

Behrman Communications Celebrates 30th Anniversary
Black Public Relations aren’t the only ones celebrating success in the PR world. Behrman Communications just recently announced hitting its 30-year mark in the PR business. Throughout this time, Behrman made a name for itself by turning start-ups into multi-million dollar success stories.
The company credits its “imaginative and resourceful thinking, and strong relationships with the media, key opinion leaders, manufacturers and retailers” for its growth and continued success.

New PR Company Formed after Split
Meanwhile, other long-time firms in the business have experienced break-ups and reformations. After a 20-year long partnership between James LaForce and Leslie Stevens, the two PR veterans called it quits in the business. This led to the dissolution of the firm, and the rebirth of a new firm led by LaForce alone.

James LaForce launched his namesake PR firm, LaForce, a few weeks back and looks forward to exploring new options. Some of the major companies rumored to work with the new firm include LinkedIn, Banana Republic, and Target.

MWWPR Launches “HerVoice” to Meet the Special Needs of Female Leaders
Not to be outdone, MWWPR announced the launch of a new and female-focused PR service called “HerVoice.” The new practice dedicates resources to meeting the special needs of women in leadership positions. Executive President, Carreen Winters, heads this specialty focus, due to her experience in working with C-Level executives to develop leadership skills.
Winters sees the “C-suite” transforming into a female-dominated level in corporations. As a result, she wants to throw MWWPR’s three decades of experience working with top female leaders as a lifeline helping other women navigate and reach the top-level spheres.

President Obama Nominates New Communications Leader
PR updates also took place in the Oval Office, as President Barack Obama nominated his former assistant press secretary for the top communications position at the Department of Education. After working for some time with Porter Novelli, Matthew Lehrich returned to work for the Obama administration and serve as the communications director beginning February 2016.
Obama stated of this and three other nominations he made this week, “These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles… I look forward to working with them."

Paypal and Edelman Join Forces
The head of alternative payment options and the top PR firm joined forces to work together on global PR. Edelman will now manage PayPal’s global product PR, alongside its US communications. This move follows PayPal’s commitment to transform the financial system as we know it today.
Edelman expects to begin with a 60-day trial to make the transition process easier. Other agencies who vied for the role include Ogilvy/Cohn & Wolfe, Text 100, Grayling, and AccessEmanate – all owned by other powerful communications conglomerates. Congrats to Edelman.
